UBA Foundation CEO Calls on Female Students to Embrace History Learning

The Chief Executive Officer of the UBA Foundation, Bola Atta, has advised female students to take the study of history seriously, noting that it plays a key role in shaping identity and awareness.
She made the appeal during an education-focused event in Lagos, where she explained that history goes beyond memorizing past events. According to her, it helps young people understand their heritage, culture, and the values that guide society.
She also cautioned that ignoring history could weaken a generation’s understanding of who they are and where they come from. Atta stressed that learning about the past equips students with knowledge that can guide better choices in the future.
To illustrate her point, she referenced prominent Nigerian women such as Queen Amina of Zazzau and Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, highlighting how they contributed significantly to the country’s development and leadership history.
She added that initiatives that promote storytelling and historical awareness are important in helping young girls appreciate their place in society and build confidence to take on leadership roles.
The UBA Foundation, she noted, continues to support education across Africa through scholarships and empowerment programmes aimed at improving learning outcomes and strengthening young women’s leadership potential.
