Kwara Government Introduces Child Rights Training for Teachers and Students

The Kwara State Government has endorsed a new training initiative focused on child rights education for both teachers and students across schools in the state.

The programme is aimed at improving understanding of children’s rights and strengthening child protection systems within the education sector. It is expected to help educators and learners better recognize, respect, and defend the rights of children in line with established legal and welfare standards.

Education officials say the training will cover important topics such as child protection policies, student welfare, the creation of safe school environments, and procedures for reporting cases of abuse or neglect. Teachers will also be trained to identify signs of mistreatment early and respond appropriately within school settings.

By including students in the programme, the government hopes to increase awareness among young people about their rights and responsibilities, while also encouraging them to speak up when necessary and contribute to safer school environments.

The initiative is part of wider efforts by the state to improve the quality of education through regular capacity-building programmes for teachers and school personnel. It also reflects ongoing reforms aimed at making schools more supportive and protective spaces for children.

Education stakeholders have expressed support for the move, describing it as a positive step toward strengthening child protection awareness and promoting a more responsible and safe learning environment across Kwara State.
