Federal Government Enhances Teacher Training with ICT Tools for 15 Colleges in Nigeria
The Federal Government of Nigeria has upgraded teacher education by supplying Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment to 15 Colleges of Education across the country. The goal of the intervention is to strengthen teacher preparation, improve digital literacy, and support more modern teaching practices.
Reports indicate that the distribution took place in Abuja and was implemented through collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Education, the Government of Japan, UNESCO’s International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (UNESCO-IICBA), and the African Union. The initiative forms part of a broader regional effort to improve education standards and promote inclusive learning, with particular attention to girls’ education.
This programme is intended to enhance both pre-service and in-service teacher training by increasing access to digital learning resources and encouraging the use of technology in classrooms. It also supports national goals around digital transformation, STEM development, and reducing the number of out-of-school children.
The donated equipment includes laptops, desktop computers, tablets, smart interactive boards, projectors, printers, and other digital tools. Alongside the hardware, training sessions are also being provided to help teachers effectively integrate ICT into their teaching methods.
Government representatives emphasized the importance of teachers in driving education reform, noting that meaningful progress in the sector depends on well-trained and digitally equipped educators. The selected colleges are expected to maximize the use of the resources to improve teaching quality and student learning outcomes.
Overall, the initiative reflects ongoing efforts to modernize Nigeria’s education system and prepare teachers for a more technology-driven academic environment.
