UBEC releases N44.24bn to Kaduna, Ondo, nine others

The Universal Basic Education Commission (Universal Basic Education Commission) has approved the disbursement of N44.24 billion to 11 states, including Kaduna State and Ondo State, as part of its ongoing intervention funding for the improvement of basic education in Nigeria.

The allocation is drawn from UBEC’s matching grant programme, which is designed to assist state governments in expanding and strengthening basic education delivery. The initiative focuses on enhancing learning conditions at the primary and junior secondary school levels.

The funds are expected to be used for several key purposes, including the construction and rehabilitation of classrooms, provision of teaching and learning materials, training of teachers, and upgrading of essential facilities such as water and sanitation in schools. It also aims to support efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children across the country.

Under the funding arrangement, states are required to contribute counterpart funds before accessing their allocations. This requirement ensures that both federal and state governments share responsibility for improving the education sector.

Although Kaduna and Ondo were highlighted among the beneficiaries, the remaining nine states also qualified for the intervention after meeting the necessary conditions set by the commission.

The latest disbursement is part of broader national efforts to address persistent challenges in Nigeria’s basic education system, including infrastructure gaps, insufficient teaching staff, and uneven access to quality schooling. UBEC has also continued to stress the importance of accountability and proper utilization of intervention funds to ensure measurable improvements in education outcomes.
