FG to Launch Learner Identification Number for Primary School Pupils
The Federal Government (FG) has revealed plans to introduce a Learner Identification Number (LIN) for all primary school pupils nationwide. The initiative is designed to improve student data management and provide each child with a unique identifier throughout their education.
The LIN will act as a digital record for every student, capturing enrollment details, attendance, academic progress, and transitions from primary to secondary school. Education officials believe this system will enhance transparency, reduce duplicate records, and make it easier to monitor students’ learning outcomes.
According to the Minister of Education, the program will help policymakers and educators make informed decisions, allocate resources efficiently, and identify areas in need of support. It is also expected to simplify student transfers between schools or states.
The rollout will begin with pilot schools before being implemented nationwide. Parents, teachers, and school administrators are urged to cooperate fully to ensure accurate data collection.
Through the Learner Identification Number, the Federal Government aims to strengthen the education system, improve tracking of students, and ultimately enhance the quality of learning for primary school pupils across Nigeria.
