Teacher Salary Concerns in Nigeria’s Private Schools

Teacher Salary Concerns in Nigeria’s Private Schools

The Registrar of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has raised concern that some private school teachers in Nigeria earn as little as ₦20,000 per month.

He noted that while a few private schools pay reasonable wages, many low-cost schools still offer extremely poor salaries, which fall far below what is needed for a decent standard of living.

The remark highlights ongoing challenges in the education sector, especially around low teacher remuneration, which can lead to poor morale, high staff turnover, and reduced teaching quality in some private schools.
