Lawmaker Empowers 5,000 Pupils with ‘Back to School for All’ Initiative in Lagos
Princess Lara Oyekan-Olumegbon, Member representing Lagos Island 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has flagged off the third edition of her Back to School for All program, designed to support underprivileged students with essential learning materials.
The initiative, which targets more than 5,000 pupils, fulfills a 2023 campaign promise and aligns with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. The event brought together community leaders, parents, and students, showcasing the lawmaker’s dedication to education and youth empowerment.
Speaking at the launch, Princess Lara underscored the deeper meaning behind the school supplies. “Every notebook handed out today is a step forward in eradicating ignorance. Every pen is a weapon against poverty. Every school bag is a symbol of hope,” she declared.
She explained that she personally visited China to inspect manufacturers and ensure top-quality products, while also integrating feedback from earlier editions. This year’s packages include trolley bags with lunch boxes, cartoon-themed supplies for younger children, as well as shoes, socks, and 12 exercise books per pupil.
The program has been hailed as a strong contribution to national educational priorities, echoing the vision of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Lagos State APC Women Leader, Mrs. Jumoke Okoya, praised the initiative and urged parents to stay politically engaged. She said, “Parents must ensure their PVCs are ready to vote for leaders committed to delivering on promises.”
Also commending the effort, Oluwafemi Asa, Assistant Director of Education at the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), highlighted the positive effect on low-income households. “She could have chosen personal gain, but instead she touched the lives of many pupils and parents today,” he remarked, encouraging the lawmaker to sustain the program.
