Education Crisis Requires Leadership and Investment, Not Frequent Policy Shifts – Obi

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said that Nigeria’s worsening education challenges can only be addressed through effective leadership and sustained investment, rather than repeated policy adjustments.

He made the remarks while expressing concern over the declining state of the education sector, arguing that constant changes in policy direction have not delivered meaningful improvements in learning outcomes.

According to Obi, the problem is not a lack of policies but poor implementation and inadequate funding. He maintained that without consistent investment in key areas such as school infrastructure, teacher welfare, and learning materials, the system will continue to underperform.

He also pointed out that many schools across the country still struggle with overcrowded classrooms, limited resources, and demotivated teachers—conditions that negatively affect the quality of education and national development.

Obi called for a stronger commitment from leaders who will prioritize education as a central pillar of national growth rather than treating it as an afterthought in budgeting and planning.

He noted that countries that have achieved progress in human capital development did so through long-term investment and consistent support for their education systems.

The former governor further stressed the need for transparency and accountability in how education funds are managed, insisting that resources must be properly directed toward measurable improvements.

He concluded that solving Nigeria’s education crisis requires discipline in governance, sustained political will, and steady investment rather than frequent policy changes, adding that education remains key to economic development, innovation, and poverty reduction.
