A Nigerian education technology company has been named the overall winner of the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) pan-African EdTech Accelerator, outperforming hundreds of startups from across the continent.

The Lagos-based startup, Data Entry Academy, founded by Chioma Ifeanyi-Eze, secured the grand prize after delivering an outstanding presentation during the programme’s final pitch event in Dakar, Senegal. The company received a $10,000 cash award after emerging as the best among 20 finalists selected from more than 1,400 applications submitted by innovators across Africa.

The accelerator, organised through UNDP’s timbuktoo initiative, is designed to support startups developing innovative solutions to improve education and learning outcomes across the continent. Participants underwent a rigorous selection process before taking part in a 12-week mentorship and business development programme aimed at strengthening their products and expanding their impact.

Data Entry Academy was recognised for its efforts in equipping young Africans with practical digital and workplace skills that enhance employability and prepare learners for opportunities in today’s technology-driven economy. Through its training programmes, the startup has empowered thousands of individuals with skills needed to compete in the modern workforce.

Nigeria also celebrated another success as Varsity Scape earned a place among the accelerator’s top 10 winners, highlighting the country’s continued prominence in Africa’s rapidly growing technology ecosystem.

Beyond rewarding innovation, the UNDP timbuktoo initiative seeks to strengthen Africa’s startup landscape by providing entrepreneurs with mentorship, access to funding, strategic partnerships, and investor networks. The programme aims to help promising businesses scale their solutions while addressing critical challenges in education and creating meaningful opportunities for young people across the continent.

The latest achievement further underscores Nigeria’s growing reputation as a hub for technology innovation, with local startups continuing to develop impactful solutions that are gaining recognition on the regional and global stage.
