FCT Teachers Call Off Strike
FCT Teachers Call Off Strike
Teachers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have ended their strike action and are preparing to return to classrooms after discussions with government officials produced new commitments on outstanding issues.
The suspension was confirmed after an emergency meeting of the FCT wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), where members reviewed the outcomes of negotiations with the FCT Administration.
What Led to the Decision
The union agreed to suspend the industrial action following assurances from the FCT Minister, who pledged improved financial support to address unpaid allowances and other welfare concerns affecting teachers.
Union representatives noted that the new commitments were sufficient to justify a return to work, pending full implementation of the agreements reached.
Resumption of Academic Activities
As a result, teachers across public primary and secondary schools in the FCT have been instructed to resume duties immediately. This means academic activities are expected to restart without further interruptions.
Agreement Still Under Watch
Although the strike has been suspended, the union made it clear that it will closely monitor the government’s compliance with the agreement. They warned that any failure to meet the terms could lead to a reassessment of their position.
Summary
The suspension of the strike brings an end to recent disruptions in FCT schools and allows students to return to learning. However, the situation remains dependent on whether the government fully delivers on its promises to teachers.
