FCT Smart School Enhances Learning Through Digital Classrooms — UBEB
The Federal Capital Territory Universal Basic Education Board (FCT‑UBEB) has reported notable progress at the Model Smart School in Karshi, Abuja, where the introduction of digital classrooms and modern teaching tools is transforming learning and improving student performance.
During a recent visit to the school, the Acting Executive Chairman of FCT‑UBEB, Mrs Florence Wenegieme, stressed that using technology in education is part of a deliberate strategy to foster innovation and elevate the quality of basic education in the territory.
Integrating Technology into Education
The Model Smart School, developed under the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) with support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), features advanced classrooms, interactive digital resources, and modern science laboratories. These facilities are designed to engage students actively, promote digital literacy, and prepare them for 21st-century challenges.
Mrs Wenegieme described the initiative as a “major step toward providing digitally driven, world class education” for children in the Federal Capital Territory.
Creating an Enriched Learning Environment
During the visit, officials toured key facilities including the Content Development Studio, ICT labs, the school clinic, student hostels, and staff accommodations. Principal Mr Ado Murtala highlighted that the smart school’s infrastructure encourages interactive teaching, critical thinking, and a learning experience that goes beyond traditional methods.
A Model for Educational Innovation
The success of the Karshi Model Smart School aligns with nationwide efforts by UBEC to roll out similar technology driven educational projects. These initiatives aim to modernize teaching, provide ICT enabled classrooms, and equip students with skills needed for academic and professional success in the future.
