Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has once again called for a complete overhaul of Nigeria’s education sector, emphasizing that the country’s progress depends heavily on revitalizing its schools and universities. He made the remarks during a ceremony in Ibadan, Oyo State, where he inaugurated newly upgraded science laboratories at African Church Grammar School Senior.

Obasanjo described education as essential for national development, warning that neglecting the sector could leave Nigeria trailing behind other nations. He stressed that both government and citizens must prioritize education to address poverty and underdevelopment effectively.

During the commissioning of the modern Chemistry and Biology laboratories, donated by a former student, Obasanjo encouraged authorities at all levels to invest more in educational infrastructure. He praised the donor’s initiative, noting that quality learning facilities directly impact students’ academic performance.

Highlighting his own lifelong commitment to learning, Obasanjo, now 80, pointed out that education is a continuous journey and a crucial tool for individual and national advancement.

He urged Nigerians to support schools through funding, better facilities, and active engagement, emphasizing that such contributions could help tackle longstanding challenges like outdated infrastructure, inequitable access, and poor learning outcomes.
