RCCG Provides Scholarships to Children in Lagos Slum

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has introduced a scholarship and youth development programme to support children living in the Olusosun landfill community in Lagos State, Nigeria. The initiative, announced as part of activities celebrating the 84th birthday of the church’s General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, aims to improve access to education and offer protection to vulnerable children living under challenging conditions.

Tackling Educational Barriers

Organised by RCCG’s social impact arm, Reach4Christ, the programme focuses on children and teenagers in the Olusosun Ikosi area, where families often survive by collecting waste and engaging in informal work. Many children in this community are at risk of dropping out of school or falling into harmful activities.

The initiative provides:

  1. Full scholarships for eligible children attending public primary schools, covering tuition, registration fees, uniforms, and learning materials.
  2. Preparatory classes to strengthen literacy and numeracy skills, helping children transition smoothly into formal education.
  3. By addressing the financial and logistical obstacles that prevent children from attending school, RCCG hopes to encourage consistent enrollment and long-term learning.

Education Paired with Support

The programme also includes counselling, mentorship, and awareness on drug and cult related dangers, equipping children with life skills and positive values to navigate risks in their environment. Organisers emphasise that these measures help foster resilience and self worth among participants.

Many families in Olusosun live with limited access to basic services, and children often lack safe spaces to play or learn. RCCG’s initiative seeks to fill this gap, giving children both educational and social support.

Part of a Broader Outreach

Alongside scholarships, the church’s outreach included:

  • Free medical check ups and treatment
  • Distribution of food, clothing, and school supplies
  • Provision of educational materials

Volunteers engaged directly with residents, highlighting the church’s commitment to social responsibility and community welfare.

Creating Hope

For children and families in Olusosun, the scholarship programme represents more than financial aid  it provides hope, dignity, and opportunities for a brighter future. RCCG continues to emphasise that every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and succeed, regardless of their circumstances.
