Oyo Lawmaker Adopts Four Year Old Girl, Promises Lifelong Education Support

Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, A lawmaker in Oyo State has captured national attention after adopting a four year old girl from her constituency, pledging to fully support her education for life.
Olufunke Comforter Adeniyi Olajide, the representative for Ibadan North Constituency I, made the announcement during a constituency development event at Mount Olivet Grammar School in Ashi-Bodija, Ibadan.
The adoption came after the lawmaker learned about the young girl’s challenging circumstances. Despite her mother’s financial struggles, the child had recently distinguished herself in a community children’s race. Moved by the story, AdeniyiOlajide promised to sponsor her education from primary school all the way through tertiary education, ensuring she has lifelong access to learning.
Constituency Development Projects
The adoption was part of a broader initiative, which included commissioning several projects and community empowerment programs. Among the projects unveiled were a new office for the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun) in Ashi-Bodija and the renovation of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) shops in Yemetu, previously destroyed by fire.
Other improvements included boreholes with generators at Yemetu, Oje Market, and Ashi-Bodija to provide clean water, as well as solar powered lighting installations at key locations to enhance public safety.
Empowerment and Support for Vulnerable Residents
As part of her outreach, Adeniyi‑Olajide also empowered over 200 young entrepreneurs with start up grants and vocational tools. Fire victims from a recent market incident received a total of ₦700,000 in cash support, while additional aid in the form of food items and cooking gas was given to other needy residents.
Further, she announced free JAMB and NECO registration forms for 20 outstanding students at Mount Olivet Grammar School, reinforcing her commitment to improving educational access in the constituency.
Officials Praise the Initiative
Adeniyi‑Olajide emphasized that her programs and adoption decision were motivated by her dedication to the well-being of her constituents, aiming to deliver tangible benefits and “comfort” to the community.
The event was attended by notable figures, including Oyo State PDP Chairman, Dayo Ogungbenro, and the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Toyin Balogun, who lauded the lawmaker’s efforts toward community development and welfare.
