Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Federal–State Partnerships to Ensure Quality Education for Every Nigerian Child

In Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, reiterated the Federal Government’s dedication to working closely with state governments to provide quality and inclusive education to all Nigerian children.

Speaking at a webinar organized by the Committee of States’ Commissioners of Education in Nigeria (COSCEN), the Minister emphasized that effective education reform depends on strong collaboration between federal and state authorities to address persistent challenges such as regional disparities and the growing number of out‑of‑school children.

Enhancing Collaboration Between Federal and State Governments

Dr. Alausa highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts to ensure that education policies are successfully implemented at the classroom level. He praised initiatives like the COSCEN webinar, which allow stakeholders to exchange best practices, align goals, and hold each other accountable in pursuing national education objectives.

Focusing on Inclusion and Access

The Minister underscored the need for targeted strategies to bring out-of-school children back into learning environments, particularly in rural and underserved areas. He called on state governments to intensify efforts to improve enrolment, retention, and educational resources. Such collaboration aims to close gaps in infrastructure, teacher quality, and learning materials that have long hindered educational progress.

Shared Vision for a Strong Education System

Dr. Alausa reaffirmed the commitment of both federal and state governments to provide equitable learning opportunities for all children, regardless of their background or location. He encouraged education leaders to continue partnering on initiatives that strengthen basic, secondary, and vocational education, stressing that a unified approach is key to unlocking Nigeria’s human capital potential.

Laying the Groundwork for Lasting Change

The renewed pledge comes as Nigeria pursues reforms to expand access to basic education and integrate digital and vocational learning. Dr. Alausa concluded by urging all levels of government to harmonize strategies and uphold a collective commitment to quality education, emphasizing that collaboration is essential to fulfilling the promise of education for every child.
