Foundation Equips Lagos Pupils with Skills and Self-Belief Ahead of Secondary Education
The United for Kids Foundation (UKF), a non-governmental organisation dedicated to supporting underserved children in Nigeria, has successfully concluded its 2025 pre-high school summer camp — a week-long learning and cultural programme designed for public primary school leavers across Lagos State.
This year’s camp, themed “Exploring Asia,” hosted over 100 pupils drawn from four public schools who participated in a variety of engaging activities aimed at boosting confidence, nurturing creativity, and preparing them for the transition into secondary education.
At the grand finale, students delivered impressive presentations showcasing the traditions, cultures, and histories of different Asian countries. These were complemented by vibrant displays of dance, music, storytelling, art, craft, and public speaking, all reflecting their week of learning.
In the keenly contested finale, Ojodu Group of Schools, representing China, clinched the first position. Adebule Primary School, which showcased India, emerged as first runner-up, while Victoria Island Group of Schools, with a lively depiction of Singapore, came third. Archbishop Taylor/Kuramo Primary Schools, who represented Turkey, took fourth place.
The judging panel, made up of Francis Yankuba, Azeezah Ladoja, and Ibukun Oyedokun, commended the children for their creativity and confidence, while offering valuable feedback to encourage further learning.
Reflecting on the initiative, UKF Vice Chairman, Adesuwa Ladoja, explained that the camp is more than just a cultural exchange — it is a tool for building both academic and personal growth among participants.
She said: “United for Kids Foundation was established over two decades ago, born from a heartfelt visit to an orphanage during the holidays. That moment transformed into a lifelong commitment to bridging the gap for children from low-income families. We focus on education, health, and welfare — with the belief that every child deserves the chance to thrive, no matter his or her background.”
Speaking further, she highlighted the purpose of the summer camp: “The summer camp is particularly close to our hearts. It equips children transitioning to secondary school with the tools, mindset, and self-belief they need to succeed.”
Ladoja also underscored the foundation’s vision, stating: “With every book read, every skill taught, and every smile restored, UKF continues to lead the charge in creating equal opportunities for children, regardless of their socio-economic status.”
Through the camp, UKF once again reinforced its mission of shaping brighter futures for children, ensuring that no child is left behind on the path to education and empowerment
