Alumni Calls for Better Pay and Training to Inspire Next Generation of Teachers
The Anwar-ul-Islam Old Students Association (ACAOSA) Global has called for regular training, improved remuneration, and attractive incentives for teachers to draw the best talents into the profession and secure Nigeria’s educational future.
The association made the appeal at the weekend during a one-day capacity-building programme it organised for 50 teachers from Anwar-ul-Islam College (formerly Ahmadiyya College), Agege, and Anwar-ul-Islam Girls’ High School, Ojokoro, both in Lagos State.
Speaking on the motivation behind the initiative, the President-General of ACAOSA Global, Dr. Abdulfatai Afolabi, explained, “Our decision to embark on this initiative was informed by the direct performance of students and their grades in final examinations.”
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, disclosed that more than 70 percent of young people in the state are entrepreneurs who need fiscal and structural support to scale their businesses.
Ogunlende made the remark while addressing journalists at the third cohort of the Amplifier Business Clinic pitch competition, where 35 entrepreneurs pitched their ideas to investors after a masterclass on leadership and enterprise for more than 100 participants.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to youth empowerment through the Amplifier Business Clinic, a flagship initiative in partnership with Pelse Consulting, designed to sharpen entrepreneurial skills and provide access to mentorship, grants, and strategic networks.
According to him, “In an economy where not every graduate will secure a white-collar job, entrepreneurship has become an essential path for survival.”
The managing partner of Pelse Consulting, Adeniji Oluwafemi Boboye, explained that the clinic was created to help entrepreneurs build proper structures for business sustainability.
Also, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Oluwatoyin Oke-Osanyintolu, revealed that plans are underway to expand the program across Lagos State. “Arrangements are being made to hold the clinic simultaneously across the state’s five divisions—Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Epe, and Lagos Island—to deepen its impact,” she said.
