FG to Launch Radio Station for Adult Education in Nigeria

FG to Launch Radio Station for Adult Education in Nigeria

The Federal Government (FG) has revealed plans to set up a specialized radio station focused on adult education to help Nigerians who did not complete formal schooling.

The project aims to use radio broadcasting as a learning tool that can reach adults in both cities and rural areas, especially those with limited access to classrooms or online learning platforms.

The planned programs will cover areas such as:

  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills
  • Vocational and practical skills training
  • Civic awareness and responsibility
  • Health education and general wellbeing
  • Entrepreneurship and small business development

The main objective is to reduce illiteracy and promote continuous learning opportunities for adults who missed out on formal education earlier in life.

Officials explained that radio was selected because it is widely available and accessible, even in communities with poor internet access or unstable electricity supply.

This initiative is also expected to support existing adult learning centres by offering flexible education that people can follow while going about their daily activities.

In summary, the proposed radio station is part of efforts to expand educational access across Nigeria using a simple and far-reaching communication platform.
