Street2School Initiative Concludes TechTrek2025 Bootcamp, Empowers Pupils with Digital Skills

The Street2School Initiative has successfully concluded its one-month TechTrek2025 Bootcamp, complementing the efforts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and First E&P Development Company in promoting responsible and safe digital footprints across local communities in Nigeria.
The programme, which ran from August 4 to 29, trained over 30 pupils aged nine to 17 in coding, graphic design, digital literacy, online safety, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Participants also engaged in sessions on creative media, photography, video editing, content creation, career chats, and guest talks.
Speaking on the impact of the programme, Oluwatosin Olowoyeye-Taiwo, founder of the Street2School Initiative, said the TechTrek Bootcamp has opened doors of opportunity for young people.
“I cannot overemphasise the importance of the TechTrek2025 Bootcamp for young people in their local communities,” she said. “It has given learners access to digital skills, creativity, and problem-solving tools that are essential in today’s world.”
She stressed the importance of coding as a tool for the future.
“Coding is not just a technical skill, but a 21st-century language of innovation which must be harnessed by all, especially children from underserved communities who often lack such opportunities,” she explained.
Highlighting the training, Olowoyeye-Taiwo said:
“During the one-month Bootcamp, participants were taught both text-based and block-based programming languages such as Python, HTML, CSS, and Scratch. They were also challenged to think critically and develop problem-solving skills. Other highlights of the TechTrek Bootcamp included sessions on digital literacy and online safety, introduction to Excel, Artificial Intelligence, and the art of using social media, covering online ethics.”
She added that one of the most memorable aspects of the Bootcamp was a recreational outing.
“A special highlight of the programme was the kind invitation of the learners and staff members by URAGA Real Estate for a one-day fun day at Upbeat Recreation Centre in Lekki. It was indeed a refreshing break our learners needed after an intensive week of coding, as the children had so much fun with a lasting experience,” she said.
The Bootcamp reinforced the vision of providing underserved children with the tools to thrive in a digital-driven economy while instilling safe, responsible, and innovative use of technology.
